Buffet 60000 wood models do not have the grain carmpon of a true wood product and as such they do not have the issue of cracking due to environmental changes that are typically seen in clarinets and other wood instruments. I can buffet up any of the student instruments and make them play, but when I play the Yamahas, it sounds more like a flute, almost as if I actually know how to play it!
This isn’t normally an issue with an instrument as small as a flute anyway, though I felt the G touchpiece, as set from the factory, was a touch on the high side. At the very least, get some lessons with a real flute teacher to get started on proper tone prodcuction.
That Buffet should be OK if the price is right. The series is generally regarded as mechanically superior to the instruments.
Gone are the dreadful rounded key cups, much improved is the vlute diameter to tone hole ratio, stiffer is the action.
