I thought that the writing was overly simplistic, and better suited for a younger audience. Ally’s voice is a memorable one; she is such a great character. I was hoping Barnholdt would be a substitute for Elizabeth Scott to me in the Chick lit department but if all her books are like this, I think I might pass. A relationship that has all the depth and resonance of a stone skipping across a shallow pond, Barnholdt barely scratches the surface of what attracts these two seemingly incompatible strangers.

Honestly, I didn’t know how Harper was able to get past that.

You can truly understand Ally throughout the book, and while I came into this book thinking that Ally would be the one that changed and got a big head when she I got through this book in a night, as I do with most of Barnholdt’s books because I can’t seem to put them down! Words of caution from my friends and fellow bloggers. He’s a jock, an injured baseball player, with a cocky smile and a history of girls and that lazy charm that he doesn’t have to work for. This is not one of those books that makes you think or changes your life in some way. Sino;sis could have been okay with it if there would have been something else to it. The story starts off introducing Harper as a girl who has been under the radar until Penn starts to notice her.

Inevitably, I found myself not caring whenever the story focused on the side characters’ plots. I loved how Harper slowly started to get through his layers though. Despite all of this, I tried. Maybe if it was longer the author would have been able to flush out the story and the characters more.
